Bumpy Start to 2010
2010 didn’t start off with the positive big bang that I hoped would happen, with the flu sweeping through our house for all of this past week. First my 4 year old got sick, and hubby took care of her for the first few days. Then he took a nose dive, and finally on New Year’s Eve I crashed. It wasn’t anything dramatic like H1N1 – it was just a simple “feel like total crap” flu. We’re all starting to recover now, slowly. As a result I lost a week of training sessions and interrupted the consistency that I need to maintain momentum. So now it’s time to pick myself up and dust myself off, and get going again.
So to get motivated, I am listening to the song called “If Today was Your Last Day” by the rock band, Nickelback. Normally I’m not a Nickelback fan, but one day I heard this on the radio and the lyrics smacked me up on the side of my head with a big wake up call. Tell me if you get the same reaction:
My best friend gave me the best advice
He said each day’s a gift and not a given right
Leave no stone unturned, leave your fears behind
And try to take the path less traveled by
That first step you take is the longest stride
If today was your last day
And tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?
Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
If today was your last day
Against the grain should be a way of life
What’s worth the prize is always worth the fight
Every second counts ’cause there’s no second try
So live like you’ll never live it twice
Don’t take the free ride in your own life
If today was your last day
Would you call old friends you never see?
Reminisce of memories
Would you forgive your enemies?
Would you find that one you’re dreamin’ of?
Swear up and down to God above
That you finally fall in love
If today was your last day
If today was your last day
Would you make your mark by mending a broken heart?
You know it’s never too late to shoot for the stars
Regardless of who you are
So do whatever it takes
‘Cause you can’t rewind a moment in this life
Let nothin’ stand in your way
Cause the hands of time are never on your side
Yup, the hands of time are never on our side. The clock keeps ticking, so do we just sit and watch ourselves get older, and say “someday I will…”. Or do we say “when I’m retired, or when the bills are paid off, or when the kids grow up…then I will…”
What about now? There is no better time to take a chance and do the things you dream of doing.
Here’s the video that goes with the song:
