The Little Things

It isn’t the mountains ahead to climb that wear you out; it’s the pebble in your shoe.

–Muhammad Ali

It’s the15 messages in your inbox that never get resolved, and need to be.

It’s figuring out the remote control.

It’s wearing the shirt with the itchy tag.

It’s the light bulb above your stove that burned out 3 months ago.

Funny how the little things can catch us, make us stumble and maybe even be the trigger that makes us fail at our goals. Why do we put up with them? The little things can appear to be small enough not to bother dealing with them. But they still bother us at some level. And worse, they add up.

I’ve got a few of these little things – tasks that must be done. And I’m starting to get exasperated with myself for not dealing with them. However, I am proud of myself for resolving a couple of small yet important things. For example, I have finally figured out the best way to hydrate while rowing, without stopping or hurting myself, or looking like a total idiot. This was important for training and for the big day.
