Time Machine

So lately I've been looking for the magical elixir that will bring me abundant energy and an extra 3 hours a day. Sorry coffee, but you're letting me down here. Where is Doc Brown and his Time Machine when I need his help?

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like anyone is going to grant me more time than I'm getting now. So I've started taking some steps to make more of what I've got – sort of a reshifting of priorities and getting some tools to help with time management.

I bought a netbook this week – for those of you unfamiliar with this term, it's pretty much just a mini-laptop. It's small enough to fit in my purse, and when I go for lunch or coffee, I can simply pull it out and hammer down what action items I need to do next, or write a blog entry instead of waiting until late at night to get my thoughts together. I'm looking forward to the possibilities with this new toy – I mean tool…

Another thing I started doing a few weeks ago is get up at 5:00 am during the week. It's not as bad as when I started, and I actually look forward to that extra "me" time before the day gets busy. I'm going to carry this into my weekends as well, to fit in my longer rows since I'm going over 2 hours now. It's just going to cut into my Friday night red wine ritual. But I think I can live with this sacrifice for a few months.

Small things do add up but it still takes a lot of discipline to stay on track – I rarely watch tv anymore but now I struggle to stay away from wasteful activities such as getting sucked into the YouTube vortex. But is it really wasteful if it provides me with fodder for a blog entry, or an idea for making my site go viral? It's a real balancing act indeed.

What ideas do you have for making more hours available in your day? Please share!
