Walking Through the Door
Over the past several weeks, I've been chewing at the bit to row my first marathon – which is 42.2 km or 26.2 miles. But I had to hold back because the marathon is not the end of my journey – once I complete it, I won't be resting but rather continuing to climb the mileage mountain. So I need to make sure I'm strong enough and well enough to do this and still continue onward.
Although it could be considered just another training session, doing my first marathon distance will be an exciting and important milestone, in that I'll be crossing a mental and physical threshold to a new world. In my mind, I will walk through a door to the other side of…I don't know what. The mental image of myself? The physical limitations I had? The second half of the igo100 story?
What will I see, feel and experience once I walk through that door? Will I find myself outside of the box I was in? Or will I end up in another room?
Ultimately that is up to me. And this is true for you. Are you ready to go through a door? It doesn't have to be a physical quest; it can be anything that you've been wanting to achieve. Maybe it's a bit scary to not know what is on the other side – unless you have already decided what will be there…
I'm due to row 40 km tomorrow. Depending on the circumstances, I may do the scheduled distance, or I may decide to go for the door.
